As the year slows down, we start noticing the quieter details of the natural world — the shape of a fern, the veins of a leaf, the texture of a seed head, the beautiful forms that are easy to overlook.
Join us for a winter afternoon of making inspired by the Louisiana landscape.
We’ll begin by choosing from a collection of botanicals and arranging them to create your own 5 × 5 botanical bas-relief. Using clay and plaster, we’ll capture the texture and form of your specimens to create a dimensional piece of botanical art to take home.
While our plaster cures, we’ll turn our attention toward the coast. Using Louisiana oyster shells and a curated collection of natural-history imagery — including herons, ferns and botanicals — we’ll create decoupaged oyster ornaments inspired by the Gulf Coast.
Once the plaster has set, we’ll reveal our botanical impressions together and see how each specimen has been translated into plaster.
You'll leave with your own 5 × 5 botanical bas-relief artwork and two decoupaged oyster ornaments, all made by hand and inspired by nature close to home.
Your workshop includes:
- One 5 × 5 botanical bas-relief
- Two Louisiana oyster shell ornaments
- Botanicals and natural-history imagery to choose from
- All plaster, clay, decoupage materials, tools and supplies
- Guided instruction for both projects
- Tea and a seasonal treat while we make
No experience necessary. Come spend a winter afternoon making, noticing and celebrating the landscape around us.
